Killing certain creatures can trigger an event portal that leads you through a series of challenges.
Those challenges are called the Soul Progression.
This system is designed to have a significant impact on gameplay over time.
It rewards dedication and consistency in the long run.
The progression is split into two different systems:
- Soul Cores: works like a treasure hunt, where you farm elite
and exalted
non-boss creatures for a chance to obtain their monster core. - Soul Pit: allows you to challenge the monster from the core you obtained in an arena-like pit, either solo or in a party.
Soul Core Challenge
This challenge has 3 different steps.
1. Once you kill an elite or an exalted creature, there is a chance it will spawn a portal.
2. Upon entering the portal, you will have to solve a quick puzzle:
You'll have to push 2 green gems
onto two switches
around the room.
Sometimes the switch is hidden below the pile of gold in the center.
3. Then, the creature you killed will spawn in its soul core form.
By killing it, you'll have a 10% chance of obtaining a soul core to challenge it in a Soul Pit.
Soul Pit Challenge
The Soul Pit is an arena-like challenge that summons waves of the soul core creature you are fighting.
Each wave spawns stronger monsters, and surviving all waves means you have completed the pit.
You can join the battle solo or with up to 4 other players.
The Soul Pit entrance is located northwest of Nevada city, which you can find by following the maps below.
1. To begin the challenge, click on the obelisk and then on your soul core.
2. Slay all monsters and survive all waves to enjoy your benefits.
Soul Progression Benefits
Completing a Soul Pit Challenge gives you a 5% experience boost against the specific monster you just fought.
Winning the fight means that you have unlocked that creature's Soul Core.
For every Soul Core unlocked, you'll receive a 0.1% experience boost on all soul core creatures you have unlocked.
For every 10 unlocked soul cores, you'll receive an additional +1% experience boost.
It can scale up to a 15% experience boost if you unlock a total of 150 soul cores, for example.
You'll also receive Soul Pit Points, which can be spent at the Soul Pit Shop (not available yet).
Example: You went to hunt Dragons. You spawned a soul core portal, completed the puzzle, and fought against a Soul Core Dragon. You got a Dragon Soul Core from this creature (10% drop chance). Then, you sacrifice this soul core to join the Soul Pit and fight against waves of this creature. After a long battle, you complete the Soul Pit challenge. This means you have unlocked the soul core for Dragons. Now, every Dragon will give you 5.1% extra experience points. 5% for unlocking the Dragon + 0.1% for unlocking a soul core creature.
Continuing... Now, you went to hunt Demons. You were lucky enough to spawn another soul core portal. Fought against a Soul Core Demon. Got a Demon Soul Core (10% chance, same as the Dragon). You went to the Soul Pit and challenged it. You survived and completed the Soul Pit Challenge. This means you have unlocked the soul core for Demons. Now, every Demon will give you 5.2% extra experience points. And then, every Dragon will also give you 5.2% extra experience points.
Why 5.2%? 5% base for completing the creature's soul pit challenge. +0.1% for every soul core creature you have unlocked. The Dragon you unlocked gives +0.1%, and the Demon gives you another +0.1%. The sum is 5% base + 0.2% from completed challenges.
