Some of the materials used in the forge are:
exalted dust: obtained through monster orb and echo raids
sliver: obtained through monster orb and through forge conversion
exalted core: obtained through forge conversion
Forge conversion is used to convert 50 exalted dust into 3 slivers
You can also convert 50 slivers into 1 exalted core
The exalted dust limit a character can carry is 2000, but by using dust you can increase this limit.
You can also track down exalted creatures by using an exalted compass, purchasable in the exaltation forge shop.
